State 4-H Council Officers
(a part of the State 4-H Leadership Team)
Senior age 4-H members, who are 15- 18 years old on January 1 may be elected annually to the office of president, vice president, secretary, parliamentarian, reporter, and song leader. Four district vice presidents are also elected to represent the northeast district, northwest district, southeast district and southwest districts. These officers will preside and assist with district and state 4-H events and activities. In addition to membership on the State 4-H Advisory Council, officers will be a part of the State 4-H Leadership Team and will provide programmatic input through committee and task force assignments. The State 4-H Council President is also a board member of the Mississippi 4-H Club Foundation, Inc.
A 4-H member can only run for one 4-H Council office. If the member has held an office on the State 4-H Council, he/she can not run for that same office again. Officers serve for one year only. They may be nominated for a different office if they wish to serve on the State 4-H Council for another year.
The application process includes submitting a resume and cover letter to the State 4-H Department by March 15.
Election of State 4-H Council Officers
- Elections are conducted annually at State 4-H Congress.
- A county may submit as many applicants as the county extension staff approves.
- All perspective applicants must submit a resume and cover letter that states which office the 4-H member wants to campaign for to the State 4-H Department by March 15.
- Candidate information will be provided to all county offices for distribution to 4-H members prior to arrival at State 4-H Congress.
- Candidates will have the opportunity to present a speech and campaign during designated times at State 4-H Congress.
All applicants must
- be 15 - 18 years old on January 1, of the current year.
- have been active participants in the 4-H club program for at least two years
- have held office in a local club or at the county level in 4-H.
- be dependable, punctual and willing to make public appearances on behalf of 4-H.
Responsibilities
- Preside and/or assist with state and district 4-H events.
- Provide input to the Mississippi 4-H program through various committee assignments or task forces.
- Serve on the State 4-H Advisory Council and present a report and/or exhibit at the annual meeting located in Jackson in April.
- The State 4-H Council President will also serve as a member of the Mississippi 4-H Foundation Board and participate in quarterly meetings.
- Fulfill all other State 4-H Leadership Team responsibilities as they apply.
Time Line
- March 15 - Resume and cover letter due in the State 4-H Department.
- May 28 through 30 - Elections will follow campaign speeches and campaigning conducted by officer candidates during State 4-H Congress.
