Senior age 4-H members, who are 14-18 years old on January 1 may apply for membership. Youth who are interested in enhancing their leadership skills through various opportunities are encouraged to apply. Team members will be involved with not only promotional activities but also will provide programmatic input through committee and task force assignments.
The application process includes submitting a resume and cover letter to the State 4-H Department by March 15. Applicants will be interviewed by a panel of judges, present a 3-5 minute speech on a topic selected from a list designated by the State 4-H Department and participate in a reception in late spring. Two different dates will be provided to candidates with locations in the south and north part of Mississippi.
Selection of State 4-H Leadership Team
- A county may submit as many applications as the county extension staff signs.
- All perspective applicants must submit a resume and cover letter to the State 4-H Department by March 15.
- All current State 4-H Leadership Team members may continue as team members by submitting a current resume and cover letter to the State 4-H Department by March 15.
- Qualified perspective applicants will be interviewed by a panel of judges, and present a 3-5 minute speech on one of the following topics:
- 4-H Healthy Living
- 4-H Science, Engineering and Technology
- 4-H Leadership
- 4-H Citizenship
- Why I am in 4-H
and participate in a reception held the same day during late spring. Two different dates will be provided to candidates with locations in the south and north part of Mississippi.
All applicants must
- be 14- 18 years old on January 1, of the current year
- have been active participants in the 4-H club program for at least one year
- be dependable, punctual and will to make public appearances on behalf of 4-H
- participate in six (6) activities or events throughout the year. Two (2) of which must be at the state level. The other events can be at the county, district, regional or national level.
Responsibilities
- Represent Mississippi 4-H at club, county, district and state events and activities through leadership and promotional roles.
- Assume an active role in 4-H programming through committee and task force membership.
- Participate in training workshops and meetings.
- Assist with 4-H Day at the State Fair.
- Keep their assigned State 4-H Leadership Team Blazer/Jacket cleaned and in good repair.
- When representing the State 4-H Leadership Team, wear the appropriate formal or non-formal team apparel.
Time Line
- March 15 - Cover Letter and resume due in the State 4-H Department.
- April 12 - Interviews, speech and reception - .Location to be announced.

- May - Selection results will be announced and a group photo will be taken during State 4-H Congress held at Mississippi State University.
