State Fair/ 4-H Village

The Mississippi State Fair is an annual event that is held in Jackson, Mississippi. This event involves people and special educational programs from all across the state. The Mississippi State University Extension Service is a very large part of the total event.

Each year Mississippi 4-H constructs what is known to many as the "4-H Village". This village is comprised of nine store fronts which resembles a small village or town. In each of the various stores, exhibits which are made by 4-H members are displayed for the general public to view. The 4-H educational exhibits are usually on display begining the first week of October. The 4-H village is located in the Trade Mart Building on the Fairgrounds.

Each exhibit is awarded a ribbon in which each one will receive monetary awards. Also a part of the 4-H Village are the Entomology and Photography Exhibits. These exhibits are selected based on entries that are sent in earlier in the year and are judged during State 4-H Club Congress.

The second Saturday in October is declared as 4-H Day at the Mississippi State Fair and all 4-H members, leaders and agents are admitted free between the hours of 8 a.m. and 12 noon. On this day, 4-H'ers from all across the state come to view the exhibits and take part in the many 4-H activities going on. Activities occurring on this day are: 4-H Clothing Contests, a Fashion Revue, Showcase of Talent, Modeling Squad Showdown, Public Speaking Contest, plus there will be Conservation, Field and Stream, and Entomology Fun Activities. 4-H Livestock events are also a big part of the total activities taking place. The 4-H Leadership Team is always present marketing 4-H as well as passing out tickets for drawings for 4-H items.
