Bug Camp 2005

Both camps this year had plenty of insects and other adventures to satisfy the most enthusiastic camper. Scope out some of the adventures below.

Bee TreeDr. Collison just happens to be a bee expert. So, when this swarm came into camp, he knew just what to do. We didn't even have to call anybody. All the campers had the opportunity to work with the bee hives and learn the fascinating facts of the social insects. How would you like to be a queen and have an army of workers waiting on you hand and foot? I wonder if she ever gets tired of never having any privacy or time to herself?

Cat HeadOk, here is the scoop on the picture from the front page. This was a part of the costume of one of the campers during the Talent Show. Abra was most convincing with her rendition. It is always amazing to watch the young people as they present a wide variety of talent. Joke telling, singing, drawing, dancing, and many other talents are exhibited each year. It is a most entertaining evening.

Plymouth Bluff offered some great places to go fossil hunting. The one on the left is a practically perfect impression of a leaf. Geological exploring was high on the list of several campers. of cool things to do.
Working on the computer always brings in some of the students. Building a web page is one of the skills we try to develop during camp. This allows us to get a head start on the Bug Camp page. Maybe you want to learn how to make a web page. Come to camp next year and see what you can learn!
Of course collecting insects is what Bug Camp is all about! This beautiful set of moths was collected during the July session of camp at Tombigbee State Park. There seemed to be an abundance of really pretty moths there this year. Or maybe this grasshopper is more to your liking. He (or is it she) was really big! There were some prize insects to be found at camp this year. Need to freshen up your collection or get a great start on one. This is the place to do it.

Crafts are always fun. Here little Jenna is wearing a compound eye made during crafts time at camp. I wonder how those insects tell just which one of those images is the right one. We have enough trouble with just bifocals! There is always something a little different in crafts every year. You never know what the crafty folks are going to come up with. Whatever it is, it will be fun (and maybe a little educational, too)!

What is it about youngsters and eating? Well, some of the oldsters seemed to like it, too. The dining room is always a popular place. It seems to be full practically every time the doors are opened. It's not Momma's home cooking, but you shouldn't go away hungry. Try it, I'll bet you'll like it!

And of course the boundless energy of the campers always energizes the older ones. They seem to be like that bunny on TV always going and going and going! From early morning collections (I mean 4 or 5 AM) to late night excursions (11 or 12), you can find campers doing something at almost any part of the day. Most are adding to their collections.
