4-H Entomology in MississippiAbout the ProgramThe nation's young people are becoming more urban each year. And as this group matures our national attitude turns more urban. This compounds problems for agriculture, for not only have we lost people from the work force, agricultural industry has lost influence in the society. Even in Mississippi, a rural state, there is a decided lack of regard for the importance of agriculture. 4-H is a beam of light shining into the darkness, helping to keep young people and their parents in touch with our nation's strength. We need renewed emphasis on basic agricultural and science projects to help keep our youth knowledgeable. Entomology as a profession or lifelong hobby helps to maintain that basic understanding of where our strengths lie. Trends in Agricultural Industry indicate that there will be a greater need for entomologists in the next 10 years. MSU must help to supply that need and 4-H can supply enthusiastic young people to the university.
