Sept 11, 2008 Retiree's Patriotic Day for Military Families
2:00 - 5:00 PM George E. Allen Library on Hwy 45 in Booneville, MS
Booneville Federation of Women’s Club will host a Retirees Patriotic Day for military families at the George E. Allen Library on Hwy 45 in Booneville, MS.  The event will be held on September 11, 2008 from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm.  OMK team will conduct a service learning project (Handmade Hero packs) for military youth whose parents are being deployed to Iraq.  The Hero Pack project is a major core element of the OMK, as it provides a symbol of thanks to children for the sacrifices they make when their parents are deployed.  Hero packs will be distributed to Prentiss County National Guard Armory in November, 2008.

Mississippi State Fair

Saturday October 4, 2008 is declared as 4-H Day at the Mississippi State Fair and all 4-H members, leaders and agents are admitted free between the hours of 8 a.m. and 12 noon. On this day, 4-H'ers from all across the state comes to view the exhibits and take part in the many 4-H activities going on. Freedom Calls

Many families across Mississippi are sacrificing time with their loved ones who are currently serving the military in Iraq. In response, the Mississippi State University Extension Service, in cooperation with Mississippi 4-H Military Project, is partnering with Freedom Call to allow service members in Iraq to connect with their family members in Mississippi. Freedom Calls is a nonprofit organization located in New York and began with the purpose of allowing military personnel stationed in Iraq to stay in contact with their families without incurring expensive cell phone bills by allowing them ot visit over interactive video. A one-hour videoconference has been schedule for October 8, 2008 in Northwest District. The service site is pending. Contact information: Dr. Susan D. The public is invited to attend the 172nd Airlift Wing (AW) Town Hall meeting scheduled for Saturday November 1, 2008 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM at 141 Military Drive, Bldg. 116 Jackson, MS 39232.  Mississippi OMK team will attend the Family Day event and utilize age appropriate activities from Ready Set Go Manual to conduct work stations for the military youth.
